OpenMOSS Unveils YuE2-3B Music Generation Model
The 3-billion-parameter model adds symbolic planning and agentic editing to open-source music generation.

OpenMOSS has released YuE2-3B, a 3-billion-parameter model for music generation that is now available on Hugging Face. The model supports both Chinese and English and ships under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license, which permits research and personal use but rules out commercial deployment.
What sets YuE2 apart from a straightforward text-to-audio generator is its emphasis on structure and control. The release highlights two capabilities in particular:
- Symbolic planning, which lets the model reason about musical structure before committing to audio output
- Agentic editing, allowing iterative refinement of a piece rather than one-shot generation
Why it matters
Open-source music generation has lagged behind text and image models, in part because raw waveform synthesis leaves little room for the kind of revision musicians expect. By pairing a compact 3B footprint with symbolic planning and editing workflows, YuE2 points toward tools that behave less like a slot machine and more like a collaborator. The modest parameter count also keeps the model accessible to researchers without large compute budgets.
The non-commercial license means YuE2-3B is best understood as a research and experimentation release rather than a production-ready product. Still, it adds a credible option to a small but growing field of openly available music models, and its bilingual support broadens who can put it to use.
