Privacy Policy

The Open Weights (“we,” “us”) operates the website at theopenweights.com, an editorial publication covering open-source AI model releases. This policy applies to that website and the accounts, comments, and notifications it offers.

• Account information. When you create an account we receive your email address (and basic profile details such as your name and avatar) from your sign-in provider, or your phone number if you sign in by phone.
• Phone number. If you enable SMS notifications, we store the mobile number you verify, solely to deliver the texts you requested.
• Content you create. Comments, likes, and your notification preferences.
• Technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address and user-agent) used to operate and secure the site.

• To provide the website, your account, and community features (comments and likes).
• To send the email and SMS notifications you opt in to, and the newsletter if you subscribe.
• To keep the service secure and to prevent abuse.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your data.

SMS notifications are opt-in. You enable them yourself by verifying a mobile number and turning on the “New release” or “Weekly digest” SMS toggles in your account notification settings. We send texts only for the categories you turn on.

We do not share, sell, or rent your mobile phone number or your SMS opt-in consent to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties for any purpose other than delivering the messages you requested, through our messaging provider.

Message frequency varies and is capped by the limit you choose in your settings. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe at any time, or reply HELP for help. You can also turn SMS off at any time in your account settings.

We send email for the notifications and newsletter you opt in to. Every email includes a link to manage your preferences or unsubscribe, and the newsletter uses double opt-in (you must confirm via a link before you receive it).

We share information with a small number of processors strictly to operate the service, under their respective privacy terms:

• Supabase — database and authentication.
• Vercel — website hosting.
• Resend — email delivery.
• Twilio — SMS delivery and phone-number verification.
• Google — optional sign-in (OAuth).

These providers process data only on our behalf. As stated above, mobile numbers and SMS consent are not shared with anyone for marketing.

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your comments, turn off notifications, or ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.

• Update your notification and contact preferences from your account settings.
• Unsubscribe from any email (footer link) or any SMS (reply STOP).
• Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us.

The Open Weights is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
